Case Studies, K-12
- Center Grove Community Schools, Greenwood, IN. 8,600 desks, chairs, and other items reused from five elementary schools, provided in 16 trailers to communities in Guatemala and Yemen, and flood relief in Kentucky.
- Morongo Unified School District, Twentynine Palms, CA. The district replaced 15,000 desks, chairs, and tables from 11 schools spread across 40 miles. The Reuse Network found homes for these with eight charities active in the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean, and Africa.
- Saugus Public Schools, Saugus, MA. More than 5,000 items made surplus in two phases after construction of a new school; these were provided in 23 trailers to students in Haiti, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Pakistan, and Indiana and South Dakota in the U.S.
- Taconic High School, Pittsfield, MA. Furnishings reused from a 750-student vocational high school, 2,700 items, shipped to communities in El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Malawi, and Mauritania, at a cost savings to the district of 30% compared to the quoted price for disposal.
- Fort Worth Independent School District, TX. 20 individual projects from a district-wide capital improvement program; 16,000 items handled for reuse, filling 43 trailers to 13 countries and the U.S.
Case Studies, College/University
- Binghamton University, NY. One of a series of projects for Binghamton University, this involved removal and reuse of about 250 sets of residential furniture, which were provided to Native American schools in New Mexico and South Dakota, and to Habitat for Humanity in New York.
- Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA. 350 sets of residential furniture including mattresses provided to a furniture bank serving disadvantaged families and Individuals in upstate New York.
- Howard University, Washington, DC. Some 300 sets of residential furniture plus 700 additional mattresses, from eight on- and off-campus residence halls, in four days, filling nine trailers, to Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Rhode Island.
- San Jose State University, CA. Consolidation and periodic Reuse Network pickup has allowed SJSU nearly to eliminate disposal of even small quantities of surplus furniture.
- Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester, NH. 240 sets of residential furniture, packed into nine shipping containers, and provided to communities in Mongolia, Armenia, Somalia, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
Case Studies, Corporate, Government, Healthcare
- International Bank, San Francisco, CA. 500 task chairs handled outside of regular business hours, at a savings to the client of 30% compared to a quoted disposal cost.
- Consulting Firm, Multiple Projects, 5 States. Reuse of just over 5,600 pieces of office furnishings from 14 different projects in VA, MD, DC, FL, and CA, completed over weekends to avoid interference with daily operations.
- International Bank, Eight Northeastern States. Reuse of 12,000 professional chairs and 4,000 other items from ten locations in MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, and MD, across three months, 54 separate load dates, and up to four locations per day.
- Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Four-day project filling nine trailers with 2,000 items of residential furniture, from a remote rural area. Furnishings provided to Habitat for Humanity ReStores.
- Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston, MA. 2,000 pieces including patient care items, therapy equipment, kitchen, laboratory, pharmacy, and administrative furnishings, in five phases. Furnishings shipped to Haiti, Trinidad, and Jamaica.
